About Sweet Pea Animal Hospital

Opened in early 2014 Sweet Pea Animal hospital is located just on the outskirts of Forster on picturesque bushland acreage and has been the topic of much speculation during the months of renovation.

For owners Robert McMahon and Samantha Blake, the opening of Sweet Pea Animal Hospital represents the NEW cornerstone of their undertaking to fullfil their combined passion to provide genuine care for animals both here and around the world.

The Sweet Pea Animal Hospital staff take great pride in giving patients the time and special attention required to ensure the animals good health and happiness. From the minute they walk through our door to the time they go home, pets receive the very best attention to make them feel loved and secure.

The necessary time and care is taken to get to the bottom of your pets health or behaviour issues and to make sure that you, their owner and carer, fully understand the diagnosis, prognosis and all of the possible treatment options.

The nursing team take time to explain the medication and treatment plan for your loved one.

Future Plans

With a mission to improve the quality of life for animals of all shapes and sizes in all parts of the world, Rob and Sam plan to open a rescue centre and sanctuary for both wildlife and companion animals to provide a safe haven for sick, injured and homeless animals in the area. Through this centre they hope to care for, re-home and release back to the wild as many animals as possible.

Their future plans also include an education centre, where their knowledge and skills can be shared with others to further assist in the welfare of animals. The education centre could host school children, adult education, and overseas guests involved in animal care in other parts of the world.

Both Rob and Sam are genuinely committed to caring for animals whether they have an owner or not. They have been actively involved in the care and welfare of local wildlife, which is done on a voluntary basis and are both carers for the local branch of Animal Welfare League, caring for and assisting in the re-homing of dozens of loveable cats and dogs.

The welfare work that they do doesn’t stop there – both Rob and Sam have been involved in a number of volunteer expeditions to other parts of the world. These missions often involve the de-sexing and treatment of companion animals, as well as the treatment and care of exotic wildlife such as Sun Bears, Slow Loris, Macaques, Moon Bears, and European Brown Bears.

Their journeys have included destinations such as Cambodia, Borneo, Java, Bali, China, Romania and most recently the Pilbara, in Western Australia. Working with organisations such as Free the Bears, International Animal Rescue, Animals Asia, and AMRRIC (Animal Management in Remote and rural Indigenous Communities).
